On rare occasion one finds a hidden gem…Springboard was our discovery at the Keeneland
September sale. From a physical standpoint this horse stood out. He had a well-developed
hip, a strong, powerful shoulder and a long stretching neck. However, Spring at Last was a
first crop sire that was below the radar until shortly after the Keeneland Sale, when his
progeny and corresponding earnings exploded on the graded stakes scene. We were already
happy with the athletic horse we felt offered lots of value, but now we were thrilled.
Springboard raced over a three-year period for his RCR owners before being claimed on
May 29th, 2015 for $32,000. During this time he raced thirteen times, winning three, coming
in second twice, and third three times. After breaking his maiden impressively at Churchill
Downs as a two-year-old, he was placed on the Kentucky Derby Odds list at 200-1.
